I use long pimples for forehand and backhand .

For defence by a long pimple player :
Long pimple players can do an attack on the first and third ball when a down spin are being returned by lifting the ball to a good placement. A block to loopers will generate hips of backspin which may cause the players to make mistake as sometime the counting will confuse them in a rally !!
this is the fun of table tennis !!
