Your ears can read spin (quicker than your eyes can)
starring U.S. player Erica Wu, points out, spin is extremely difficult to see on a table tennis ball, this is especially true if you didn’t get a good look at the shot that created it. Sometimes, you might be lucky enough to get a clue from glimpsing the label on the ball, but usually there is enough spin to make this invisible.
But this is no problem for you! Your ears help out by hearing how much spin is on the ball. A louder contact equals less spin while a quieter one means there is more spin.
Not only this, but your ears do this faster than your eyes can. Studies have shown that auditory stimuli can reach the brain 0.03 seconds faster than visual stimuli. It may not sound like a lot, but the video also says that when facing a smash, you might have as little as 0.11 seconds to react, which means that extra 0.03 seconds is an extra 27%! Thankyou ears!
