It is not the case in China.
According to my observation, China only arranges a maximum of 12 players (6 male and 6 female) for the Open Competition.
As China would like to ensure the Champion of all main competitions, like Olympics, World Champion and World Cup, only the most strong players (e.g. Ma Lin, Ma Long, Wang Wao, Zheung Jik)e would enter the Open Competition. Therefore, there is little chance for young players unless those young players can beat the formers in the inter-competition. However, it is very difficult.
