Agree. From the kid's point of view, it may not only a friendly match, but a gift redeem action .
Because many of the parents encourage them by reward of toy or even more luxury gift once they won the competition.
So never punish them when they have poor performance.
Pressure sometimes may even come from friends and classmates because of their own reputation when they join and participate in the game for several years.
