Little tips to choose a suitable single-ply Hinoki Wood

Here are the little tips to choose a suitable single-ply Hinoki Wood Blade that fits your style.

There are three “good” characteristics of the wood you should be looking for.

1.        Soft, strongest tenacity (韧性), and huge resiliency (弹性) that is better for looping
2.        Hardness, strong tenacity, and great resiliency that is better for blocking, aggressive attacking, and even for looping if choosing suitable rubber.
3.        Medium hardness, moderate tenacity, and good resiliency that is better for all-round.

Hope this help.

Ref: Older woods better than Newer woods

I recently acquired Yinhe 1-ply special edition Hinoki wood, which has 11.5mm with 102 grams. it was made before year of 2007 when Yinhe posted their ads (note that they didn’t have thickness for 11.5mm) with following contents.
"银河重要通知:
1.在日本制造(MADE IN JAPAN)的单桧已全面到货,价格如下:
      200#(年轮200年以上)  数量充足>800支   售价880元
      260#(年轮250年以上)  限量    <120支   售价1580元
      350#(年轮350年以上)  极少    < 30支    售价2990元
    厚度:中直(CS)10.5mm、日直(JS)10.5mm、横拍(FL\ST)10.0mm。"

I brought my Yinhe's single-ply Hinoki wood with special edition to “萬 X” for comments. The owner commented it should be “A” grade, he also said he has BTY Cyber Max, and one “supper item – I forgot the model” are AAA. I compared these three together only for “sound test” and “bounce test”. The Cyber Max listed $2600+ and the “supper” listed $3300+ , they are all J-penhold. The Max sound softer than the supper while the Yinhe sounds the brighter and harder than other two. After that I used a ping-pong for bounce test, the Yinhe's was the highest and more frequency rebound than the supper followed by the max, all these tests were also duplicated by a salesperson as well in the shop and he agreed with all these analysis. I could be wrong; it seems the older woods looks better than the newer woods regardless the brand. Just having this personal experience to share to you, and the point I try to make is to look at the quality of wood rather than the brand. Good luck to all single-ply Hinoki wood fans!
